What E24 Means

E24 means the dishwasher tried to pump water out at the end of a cycle and it didn't drain fast enough, or at all, within the time the machine expects. You'll usually notice standing water pooled at the bottom of the tub when you open the door. It's one of the more common Bosch codes and, thankfully, one of the more fixable ones without professional tools in a lot of cases.

Likely Causes

• A clogged filter at the bottom of the dishwasher tub
• A kinked or partly blocked drain hose
• A clogged air gap, or a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never punched out on a newly installed disposal
• A failing drain pump that's no longer moving water efficiently

What You Can Check Safely

Remove the filter assembly at the bottom of the tub — it usually twists or lifts out by hand — and rinse off any trapped food debris, then reseat it firmly. Pull the dishwasher forward slightly if you can and check the drain hose behind it for any kinks or tight bends. If your dishwasher drains through a garbage disposal, run the disposal for a few seconds with water running to clear anything blocking the shared line, and if the disposal was installed recently, confirm the knockout plug inside it was actually removed. Avoid taking apart the drain pump itself or reaching into it.

When to Call a Technician

If the filter is clean, the hose is clear, and the disposal line isn't the issue, but E24 keeps coming back, the drain pump or hose assembly likely needs replacing.
