GE Error Code F2

What F2 Means

On GE ranges and wall ovens, F2 shows up when the control board thinks the oven cavity is hotter than it should be, or when it isn't getting a valid signal from the oven's temperature sensor at all. Either way, the board responds by locking out normal operation until the problem clears, since it can't safely regulate heat without a trustworthy reading.

Likely Causes

• A temperature sensor probe that's failed or drifted out of calibration
• The sensor probe touching a rack or the oven wall, causing a false high reading
• A relay stuck on the control board, keeping the heating element powered longer than it should be
• Loose or damaged wiring between the sensor and the control board

What You Can Check Safely

Once the oven has fully cooled and is switched off, you can look at the temperature sensor probe — it's usually a small metal rod near the back or side wall of the cavity — and see whether it's bent or resting against a rack or the oven wall, since contact there can throw off the reading. Don't touch it while the oven is hot or still powered. If it's safe to reach, turning the oven off at the breaker for a minute and back on again can also clear a one-off code. Beyond that, there isn't much else to check yourself; the sensor circuit and control board aren't something to open up.

When to Call a Technician

If F2 keeps coming back, or the oven seems to run hotter than the temperature you set, stop using it. An oven that can't accurately track its own temperature isn't safe to keep cooking with, and the sensor or control board will need to be tested and likely replaced.
