What CO Means

CO signals that the refrigerator's control board has picked up a fault in how it's communicating with, or controlling, the compressor. On newer LG fridges, the compressor runs off an inverter module rather than a simple on/off switch, and CO is what shows when that link isn't behaving as expected.

Likely Causes

• A brief power outage or voltage surge that momentarily confused the control board
• A fault in the compressor's inverter or control module
• A genuine compressor failure
• A loose or damaged wiring connection between the main board and the compressor

What You Can Check Safely

Unplug the fridge and leave it unplugged for five to ten minutes — long enough for the control board to fully discharge and reset. This alone sometimes clears a false reading left over from a power blip. Plug it back in and keep an eye on whether the code returns and whether the fridge starts cooling normally again. Don't try to access the compressor compartment at the back or bottom of the fridge yourself; that area involves sealed refrigerant lines and electrical components that aren't safe or practical to open without training.

When to Call a Technician

If CO comes back after the reset, or the fridge isn't cooling properly along with the code, it's time to call in a technician. Compressor and inverter board problems need proper diagnostic equipment to pin down and aren't something to troubleshoot further on your own.
