LG Error Code DE

LG washer displaying DE and refusing to start? This code almost always points back to the door.

What DE Means

On LG washers, DE is the door error code — it appears when the machine can't confirm the door is closed and securely locked. Like most modern washers, LG machines won't fill or spin without that confirmation, both to keep water in and to keep the drum from spinning open. So the cycle stalls and DE stays on screen until the door situation is resolved.

Likely Causes

  • The door simply isn't pushed all the way closed
  • A piece of clothing is caught in the door gasket, keeping it from sealing
  • The door latch has worn down or shifted out of alignment over time
  • The door lock switch itself has failed electrically

What You Can Check Safely

Run your fingers around the full circle of the door gasket to check nothing's trapped there, since even a thin sock edge can be enough to stop a full seal. Close the door firmly and confirm it sits flush against the front of the machine rather than tilted or gapped on one side. On front-load models that have been in place a while, it's also worth glancing at the hinge side to see whether the door has sagged or loosened — a door that doesn't hang evenly won't latch consistently.

When to Call a Technician

If the door closes flush, nothing's caught in the seal, and DE still won't clear, the door lock assembly is the most likely culprit and will need to be tested and probably replaced. That's inside the front panel and best left to a technician. Our washer repair team works on LG appliances throughout Greater Victoria and can usually diagnose this on the first visit.
