What 5E and LE Mean

5E and LE are the same underlying fault shown differently depending on the model. Your washer uses a pressure switch to track how much water is in the tub. When that switch either senses an actual leak or can't get a reliable reading during fill or spin, the machine stops the cycle and posts the code rather than risk overfilling or running with water somewhere it shouldn't be.

Likely Causes

• Pressure switch hose is kinked, pinched, or clogged
• An actual water leak from the door seal or a hose connection
• Clogged drain filter causing water to back up and trip the sensor
• Failing pressure switch that needs to be tested and replaced

What You Can Check Safely

Run your hand around the rubber door gasket and check the folds for trapped coins, tissue, or debris — even a small gap there can break the seal and let water escape. Next, find the drain filter access panel at the bottom front of the washer and check it for clogs; a backed-up filter can push water where the pressure switch doesn't expect it. Also confirm the machine is sitting level and isn't loaded past the recommended capacity. Leave the outer cabinet panels closed — the pressure switch and its wiring are inside and not meant to be handled without training.

When to Call a Technician

If the gasket and filter check out clean and there's no leak you can see, but the code keeps returning, the pressure switch or drain pump likely needs to be tested with proper equipment and replaced if faulty. That's inside-the-cabinet work best left to a technician.
