What dE Means

dE stands for "door error." Your Samsung washer has a switch that confirms the door is fully closed and locked before it will fill or spin. When that switch doesn't get a clean signal, the washer stops itself rather than risk starting with the door open, and dE shows up on the display until the issue clears.

Likely Causes

• Door wasn't pushed shut firmly enough to latch
• A sock, sleeve, or piece of clothing is caught in the door seal, blocking a full close
• The door latch or lock mechanism has worn out or broken
• The door switch itself has failed and isn't sending a signal at all

What You Can Check Safely

Open the door and run your hand around the rubber door seal to make sure nothing — a stray sock, a shirt cuff, a bit of bedding — is pinched in it and holding the door slightly open. Close the door with a firm push until you hear or feel it click into place, then restart the cycle. If it locks fine but the code comes right back, there's likely a mechanical or electrical fault inside the latch assembly, and that's not something to pry open or force yourself.
